My eternal reverence for Animal Collective

Today Panda Bear tried to ruffle my feathers with this statement regarding Animal Collective, “So I don’t know, this could be it.” (via pitchfork) Ok listen AC, you can’t just release an album as mind-blowing and on-bended-knee-reeling-from-its-brilliance good as Merriweather Post Pavillion and call it quits on us. And then! I watched Spike Jonze’s short film, “I’m here” (which of course broke my heart) and lo and behold the song played in the closing credits is Animal Collective’s “Did You See The Words.” I took this as a sign from the Fates that today needed to be dedicated solely to the genius of my favorite band hailing from Maryland.

If you ever get a chance to see these boys on tour, please do it. It is life changing. It will be as if the world was suddenly turned on in technicolor. Foods will taste better. You will hear notes and chords and progressions in music you never dreamt possible. And maybe Goldenvoice will hook you up with free tickets and you can take one of your best friends and forever be a hero in his eyes (I’m lookin at you daniel berkman.)

So as I sit here immersed in this glorious animal collective induced haze, I present some AC tracks I would die without.

Leaf House (off the album Sung Tongs)

In The Flowers ( from Merriweather Post Pavillion)

My Girls (from Merriweather Post Pavillion)

What Would I Want? Sky (from the Fall Be Kind EP)

Banshee Beat (from Feels)

Summertime Clothes & Brothersport (from Merriweather Post Pavillion… I told you I was obsessed with this album)

BONUS! track used in “I’m Here” –> Did You See The Words (from Feels)

and here’s the link to the film.
